I, unfortunately, have an internal 250 Mg Zip drive and a 1 Gg Jaz
drive attached to my computer.

Both have password protection. I constantly have trouble with the
Iomega software failing to recognise that they have a disk inserted.

Th unprotect option when I right click on either on them is often
'greyed' out or not shown atall and I oftenget a messagestating that
the protection can not be changed whilst the disk is in use - and no
other application atall is running, certainly nothing that uses the
iomega junk.

Can someone seuggest an alternative to either, or both of these, I
have had my fill of Iomega and will never again purchase ( or even
accept free of charge) anything that they manufacture.

My only suggestion is to do what I did, install Win98 on another partition,
then unprotect on that - silly but you'd had thought Iomega could solve the
XP problem - it seems to happen lots!

The Iomega Zip drive is basically a very good product. That is, as
long as you don't try to use the protection option. I have a 250 Mb
internal zip and, like you, I have the same problem with trying to
access protected discs. Iomega are unable to help, as they cannot find
the problem. It may be the operating system which is to blame - XP in
my case.

I think iomegas technical support is excellent. My internal jaz 1gb
went wrong last week, and it was in warranty so they are replacing it.
theyve got no jaz 1gb drives though so they are sending me a 2gig
external drive, thats what i call good service. Hasnt arrived yet
though, god knows where im going to put an external drive though!

It all depends on whether they can solve the problem or not. If they
can, you're OK. If not, you're not.

You do realize that "support is excellent" is about to turn into
abysmally slow write speeds to 1G disks in a 2G drive due to their
pseudo compatability? And you cannot long format your 1G disks in the 2G
drive. The Jaz line has been discontinued for a good year now and what
you got is all they have left, and most likely a used drive at that.
They didn't exactly do you any favors.
