Disk Not Acknowledged

Can someone out there help. Iomega is of no assistance whatsoever with this
one, simply charging me $15, then directing me to a list of questions and
answers that gets nowhere close to answering my question. Hopefully, I will
have better luck here.

I have a Iomega 750 MB USB Zip Drive and am using Windows XP. While the
drive itself works fine, I found (by accident) that if I leave a disk in the
drive and boot/reboot the computer, the drive will longer recognize that
particular disk. In fact, it even asked me to insert a disk in the drive,
when in fact there is a disk in it. The drive and other disks work just
fine, but not the few I left in the drive when I booted/rebooted the
computer.

Have I lost all date on those particular disks, or is there a way to once
again get the drive to recognize these disks? I can't even right click on
these disks, it is as if the drive does not know they even exist.

Thanks in advance.

I just found this group and came in hoping to find the same answer,
only my drive is a 250 mb USB unit. I started with an internal 250
on a Dell running XP SP1 which "mysteriously lost" the drive and
was unable to read anything on my disks. Over a period of several
weeks, I was gradually able to read some files and could transfer
them to my hard drive. Then, I got rid of the Dell and bought a new
Gateway multimedia desktop that had no Zip drive but instead
came with a 9-in-1 card reader. When I inquired about adding a
Zip drive, Best Buy said they were no longer stocking and selling
them. I finally located a Frys Superstore that had both internal and
USBs, so I invested in a USB unit and set about trying to reclaim
my lost files. I managed to get a few more, but now, the computer
"fails to acknowledge the drive" or any disks I insert. In fact, it
has split itself into two separate drives: one (D: drive) that directs
a user to a website called PCAngel that warns about formatting new
or existing disks and a second that appears to find the folders
and file system on my disks, but won't let me open or transfer
anything from them.
Iomega's website has no help whatsoever and, like you, I can't
understand the logic of charging money for help in the form of
questions that tell me nothing. Now I'm considering an internal
750 unit to see if it will work any better, but no one will tell me
if indeed it will. I hope we both find a clue.
