Zip 250 green light not on
(too old to reply)

My 250 SCSI zip drive has totally bonked out on me...it was behaving
erratically for months but since I seldom use it it wasn't a problem. Then it
stopped mounting on the desktop (Mac) and I'd get the message that no drives
were detected. Now the green activity light doesn't come on at all. I
disassembled and notice that when power is turned on and off to the unit a red
light flashes followed by...nothing. Any ideas for me (other than chucking the
&*^%$# thing in the trash)?
Thanks.

Define "erratically." What was it doing or not doing?

If it's an external drive have you checked the power supply? Try
swapping it with a known working power supply. If it's an internal
drive it's time to kiss it goodbye.

By erratically, I mean it was clicking alot upon disk insertion but still
reading the disk. This is the 3rd one Iomega has exchanged for me under the
"click of death" program and I doubt they'll do it again...plus this is the
only one that has failed to power up at all. This is an external unit. I
still have a power supply from an old unit and it doesn't work any better than
the new one.
