Don't buy it....don't accept it as a gift....have nothing to do with it.
Had a ZIP 250 that went after a couple of years but I liked it while it was
working. Got a ZIP750 to replace it and have had nothing but problems. No I
have some disks that are password protected and when I right click on the
ZIP drive icon there isn't even a place that says "unprotect" I've wasted
the better part of a day trying to get at the information on that disk. The
guy at the store told me that ZIP drives were fading out and would be gone
within a year. He even gave me a discount to take the ZIP750. I should have
listened.

Just so you know, you can't go in to unprotect through a desktop icon,
you have to go to "my computer" and right click the drive from there to
get the "unprotect" option. I almost threw out my 250 because I
couldn't find out how to unprotect the sucker.

ZIP drives have seen their day. Get and use an USB pen
or "jump" drive.

Nothing lasts forever, especially those things that use
mechanical devices or have moving parts. Think that a ZIP
disk can last forever? An USB jump drive might last longer
and, today, is more convenient due to the availabity of
USB ports in computers. And for long-term storage or for
archiving, ZIP/JAZ magnetic media has never been assured;
optical drives, yes; CD-R, not as good but better than
magnetic media. (And, BTW, my 2-year old Lexar 512 MB is
still running strong, backing up and transporting data for
over 2 years. Moving up to a 2 GB very soon; database files
are getting too large.)

Hell, just comparing the price points alone on the cost of a Zip 750 and
the media you can't win that argument. The price on all type of flash
RAM keeps dropping. And look Ma! - no moving parts. IIRC the RAM is
supposed to be good for over a million write cycles. I haven't seen any
failures there either. Regardless - magneto optical, CD, DVD USB RAM
drives - all generally less expensive and far more reliable.

Iomega does not create industry standards, as much as they would like
to. Zip drives are waning (try and find one, or the media, in any given
computer store these days) and once Iomega discontinues them you won't
have an alternate source for media or drives. But it's your choice -
keep putting (a lot) of money into that over priced media until you
can't buy it any more... God forbid the drive fails once they are
discontinued.
