Post by geothermalPost by Me, DavidI have a Zip 250 external, and since installing 10.4 Tiger, half my
disks have gone stupid, the machine refuses to mount, all sorts of
rubbish. They'll work if I use a computer with the old OS!
Anyone else got this trouble?
David
If your Zip® USB drive is not being detected in Macintosh® OS X, use
the following steps.
STEP ONE - Connect the drive directly to the computer
Connecting the Iomega USB drive through a USB hub can prevent the
Iomega drive from mounting a disk on the desktop.
1. Disconnect all USB devices from the computer, except the USB
keyboard or mouse.
2. Connect the Iomega USB drive directly to the computer (do not
use the keyboard port).
3. Insert a Macintosh formatted disk into the Iomega drive.
If the disk mounts on the desktop, the problem has been resolved.
If the disk does not mount on the desktop, continue with the
next step.
STEP TWO - Verify the drive is receiving power
1. Disconnect and reconnect the power supply to the drive. If you
have a host powered drive, continue with the next step.
2. Insert a disk into the drive.
If there are no lights on the drive, the drive is not receiving
power. There may be a problem with the drive's power supply. Contact
an Iomega Technician by selecting the Additional troubleshooting and
support options link at the bottom of this page. for help.
If there are lights on the drive, continue with the next step.
STEP THREE - Restart the computer without the Iomega drive connected
1. Remove any disks from the drive.
2. Disconnect the Iomega drive from the USB ports.
3. Restart the computer and allow the operating system to load.
4. As soon as the operating system has finished loading, reconnect
the USB drive data cable.
5. Wait a few seconds for the USB bus to initialize.
6. Insert a disk into the drive.
If the USB drive is recognized, the USB port of your computer
did not scan the hardware attached to it correctly. You must repeat
this procedure each time you restart the computer.
If the drive does not mount, continue with the next step.
STEP FOUR - Format the disk to HFS format
Warning: Erasing your disk will erase all of the information
stored on the disk. If possible, back up your data before erasing the
disk.
1. Double-click the Mac hard drive icon.
2. Double-click the Applications folder.
3. Double-click the Utilities folder.
4. Double-click the Disk Utilities icon.
5. Highlight the Zip drive in the left window.
6. Click the Erase tab.
7. Select Mac OS Extended.
8. Click the Erase button and then click Erase from the
confirmation window.
If the disk mounts, you are ready to use the drive.
If the disk does not mount, contact an Iomega Technician by
selecting the Additional troubleshooting and support options link at
the bottom of this page for help.
