Hi,

I use a zip 250 and a zip 100 (either or, the data is only 10 megs or
so) to back up an old DOS computer that I use for some exceedingly old
proprietary software and hardware... Iomega don't offer the software
anymore and I seem to have misplaced the disc...

Can anyone direct me to it, or provide me with it?

Thanks!

Hi, Blair

I checked iomega.com, and sure enough, they dropped
their "legacy" support as you said. Sheesh.
What a chintzy company.

Anyway, www.storagedrivers.com/drivers/23/23142.htm
has a Zipped version of iomega guest for DOS.
I know it works with Zip 100 parallel,
and presume it works with zip 250 parallel.

They require free registration to download the software.

Good luck,
Ed

You can get it here: ftp://ftp.iomega.com/english/dos_551.exe

The software might need 80386 or better processor, if it works in
32-bit 386 mode. Anyway, 8088 is such an old processor, that you
are trying your luck, if your PC has been in use for at least 10-15
years or longer period. I recall common consumer PC hardware has
been rated to circa 10 years usage time, after that hw failure risk
increases steeply.

My suggestion is that you should backup your files with 3.5" 1.44
MB floppy diskettes. Use an archieving program like Info-Zip to
create compressed file archieves, if your PC's hard disk has space
for temporary files: ftp://ftp.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/MSDOS/

Then use file splitter to copy them to floppy disks:
http://short.stop.home.att.net/freesoft/filutil1.htm#splitters

The DOS file splitters may not work in big partions, or FAT32 and NTFS
file systems, so you probably need to have one logical partion/drive
with a FAT16 DOS filesystem of max. 2 GB size with DOS
functionality in the PC where you reassemble the backupped files.

Thanks, but the IBM XT I have is not my main machine. I'm merely
restoring it.

In fact, I'm running a webserver on it, and wanted to use the ZIP for
storage of the FTP server.. ;)
