I just bought a used but in good condition External 2 GB Jaz Drive and I am
not able to get it to work.
Windows shows that it found the new hardware and that it is working properly
but I cannot see the drive in MY Computer or in Explorer.
Am I doing something wrong or is the drive kaput?
The drive is SCSI but it comes with a USB cable so I am not sure what to do.
I have no manual and no install CD.
Do I install it as SCSI or what?
Any help will be appreciated.
Operating system is XP Proffessional Version.
I couldn't get it to work on my laptop as well.

Thank you
Winston

Manual is here:

Here is the installation section:
===============================================================

Connecting Your Jaz® Drive to a PC

The Jaz® Portable SCSI drive is a SCSI drive. The instructions in this
section show you how to connect your Jaz drive to a SCSI card that has
been installed in your PC. For maximum performance, you can install
and use a Jaz® Jet® PCI Ultra SCSI card to connect your Jaz drive.

* If you plan to use an Iomega SCSI card such as the Jaz® Jet®
PCI Ultra SCSI Card, see Purchasing Iomega Products.

* If you plan to use a non-Iomega SCSI card, refer to Non-Iomega
SCSI Cards in the "SCSI Guidelines."

There are two alternative methods for connecting your Jaz® drive to
your computer. You can use either the Jaz USB adapter or the Jaz®
Traveller™ Parallel-to-SCSI adapter. If you choose either of these
methods, refer to the documentation that came with the adapter. Both
adapters are available as Jaz accessories and are not included with
the drive.

* If you plan to connect your Jaz® drive to the parallel port
rather than to a SCSI card, you must use the Jaz® Traveller™
Parallel-to-SCSI adapter. To purchase the Jaz Traveller
Parallel-to-SCSI adapter, see Purchasing Iomega Products.

* If you plan to connect your Jaz® drive to the USB port rather
than to a SCSI card, you must use the Jaz USB adapter. To purchase the
Jaz USB adapter, see Purchasing Iomega Products.

1. If you have not already installed the IomegaWare™ software,
install it now.

2. Check that your PC has a SCSI card installed.

Your PC must have a SCSI card installed. If your computer does
not already have a SCSI card installed, one will have to be installed.
See the SCSI Guidelines for a description and illustration of a SCSI card.

If you choose to connect the Jaz® drive using an alternative
method, the following instructions in this section will not apply. See
the documentation that shipped with the adapter for instructions on
connecting it to your Jaz drive and PC.

Windows® NT® 4.0 users—you will need to install driver software
for the new SCSI adapter. Refer to Troubleshooting for more information.

3. Check the SCSI IDs and terminations of existing devices.

Go to step 4 if there are no other SCSI devices connected to
your computer. If there are other devices connected verify the following:
* SCSI ID 4 is not being used by those devices
* Termination is set properly for all SCSI devices
Instructions on how to check the SCSI ID and set the
termination reside in the SCSI Guidelines. If another SCSI device is
connected to your computer, complete steps 1-4 in the SCSI Guidelines
section, before continuing to step 4.

4. Shut down your PC, turn off all connected devices, and
disconnect all electrical power.

CAUTION! Always turn off power to the computer and all devices
connected to it (such as printers or drives) before beginning any
computer hardware change.

5. Connect one end of the data cable to the bottom SCSI port on
the back of your Jaz® drive.

Check the orientation of the cable before trying to connect it
to the Jaz® drive. Connect the data cable carefully to avoid bending
the pins. Bent pins on the cable connector can cause the drive to
function improperly. Push until the connector locks into place.

CAUTION! Do not attempt to stand the Jaz® drive on its side.
Never move the drive while a disk is inserted.

To remove the Jaz® data cable—squeeze the spring locks on both
sides of the data cable connector while pulling on the connector.
6. Connect the other end of the SCSI data cable to the SCSI
connection on your computer.

You will need a different cable or a cable converter only if
you are connecting the Jaz® drive to a SCSI device that does not have
a 50HD pin connector. See the necessary SCSI cable and converter chart
for the available types of cables and connectors for the Jaz drive.

NOTE: If you are connecting your Jaz® drive to an existing SCSI
chain, make sure the SCSI ID and termination are set correctly.

7. Connect the external power supply and turn on the power switch.

Check that the drive status light on the Jaz® drive flashes
briefly. The Jaz drive status light on the Jaz drive flashes as the
disk spins up, or when it is busy, and glows steadily while it
acquires. When the light goes out, the drive is ready to use. If the
drive status light does not flash, refer to Troubleshooting.

CAUTION! Use only an approved Iomega Jaz® power supply. Other
power supplies may damage your Jaz drive.
8. Restart your computer.

Congratulations! Insert a Jaz® disk and the Jaz drive is ready to use.

You should see the Jaz® drive icon in My Computer or Windows®
Explorer, if not, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

* For information on operating your new Jaz® 2GB drive, refer to
Using Your Jaz Drive.

* See Using IomegaWare Software for information on the software
that came with your drive.

* If you encounter problems installing or using the Jaz® 2GB
drive, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
