System freezing with Paralell Zip100

I have a parallel port Zip 100 which has given good service over a
number of years on my Win98SE machine. Recently, however, it has
behaved less well. The symptoms are that the whole system freezes for
20 to 25 seconds. This appears to happen every time a disc write is
attempted, and sometimes for a disc read.

This problem may be connected with the installation of a network card,
but the symptoms still occur when network access is disabled.

I have tried reinstalling the iomegaware software, disabling and then
uninstalling Active Disc all with no improvement.

Has anyone come across this before? Any suggestions gratefully
received.

That sorted it, thanks
Try running the parallel port accelerator in Win 9x (doesn't work in NT
versions). The accelerator was discontinued for some reason, but I had this
problem, ran it, and not only did the problem go away, I got better transfer
speeds. (attachment of utility to the e-post).
