Discussion:
Zip 250 parallel problems
(too old to reply)

I Googled this ng to see if I could find a solution to my problem, but
there doesn't appear to be one, so here goes:

My Zip 250 parallel drive will happily read and write 100Mb Zip disks,
but when faced with a 250Mb disk it just goes into spasms with the green
light flashing (with sound effects of accessing the disk) and nothing
much happening. It appears to be working *incredibly* slowly - using
100% CPU (Windows XP Home) but progressing at less than a snail's pace.
It might read one small image file (say 45Kb) every minute or so.

I've installed the latest Iomegaware as well as the slow access patch.

If I could only read the four 250Mb disks I have, I'd transfer the data
to CD and then ditch them. I hate this drive.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

I should add that just inserting a 250Mb disk results in the drive going
bonkers and using 100% CPU to do nothing, until I eject the disk (with
difficulty).

No problem with 100Mb disks. And yes - it *is* a 250Mb drive.

This may sound silly, but.... what if you disconnect the parallel cable
completely and put a 250 in? Does it still behave oddly?

Not silly at all, Rob. I just tried that and it sits there happily with
a solid green light on the button. That must be a clue of some kind.

Additionally - If there's a 250Mb disk in the (connected) device and I
turn my PC on - it won't boot. It spends all it's cycles struggling
with the 250Mb Zip.
