I have an internal ZIP 250 in my Dell 8100 laptop under Win2K SP4. I get the
following message whenever I try and write to the ZIP disk "The driver
detected that the device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 has its write cache enabled.
Data corruption may occur". Help!

Hi, Jess

Doubleclick on the desktop "My Computer" icon. The Zip drive
should show up as a "Removable Disk", not as a "Local Disk".
If it is shown as a Local Disk, you may have to change your BIOS
settings, so that "standard CMOS features" is set to auto detect
all IDE devices. I'm not sure how you get to the BIOS settings on a
Dell, it might be by pressing the "delete" key during boot up.

If the Zip is shown properly as a Removable Disk,
right click on the Zip drive icon, click on "properties", click on
"hardware", doubleclick on the zip drive, click on "Disk Properties",
and uncheck the "Write Cache enabled" box.
The "Write Cache Enabled" box is greyed out on my Win 2K SP4 machine.

Thanks but every time I uncheck the "Write Cache enabled" box, it shows up
as checked when I go back to it. The ZIP is a removable drive.

Microsoft mention a hotfix but it is chargeable and I can't find any updated
drivers on the iomega.com support site. Mine is 5.0.2183.1.

Hi, Jess
Here's an article from the MS knowledgebase,
which sounds like your problem,
but they don't mention any upcoming fix:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324916

My Zip driver is the same version number as yours,
and I have no Iomega software on the computer.
(I use an old 100 MB Zip drive, I never updated to 250MB).

Regards,
Ed
