Post by D***@ix.netcom.comPost by JayCan't get Zip-100 drive to be a boot drive.
In the latest (and last) BIOS for this board, there is a selection you make
to get the boot order, i.e. A,CDROM, C or C,A or A,C or LS-ZIP,C and so on -
about 8 of them.
"LS-ZIP, C" would seem to be what you want. Is the Zip drive
configured correctly in the BIOS? You probably shouldn't use an Auto
setting for it; that is usually intended for hard disks.
Yes, it is set to the LS-ZIP setting. My hard drive is on Primary Master,
with the CD-RW drive as Primary Slave. The Zip-100 ATAPI is by itself as
Secondary Master. I have tried rotating through the boot devices Primary
Master and Secondary Master in the BIOS, but the ZIP drive just doesn't seem
to work without loading the drivers.
When the system boots, the BIOS does display that it found ATAPI device:
ZIP-100 (as well as the CD-RW drive). I have the Secondary Master set as
NONE in the BIOS (there is no ARMD setting - just type 1-45, none, USER and
AUTO) and my system will boot up, but again, the ZIP-100 won't work without
the drivers being loaded after the O/S has booted.
Post by D***@ix.netcom.comPost by JayI can get the Zip load with drivers or guest but just can't get this thing
to be a boot drive. What gives? Anyone else ever do it?
I've done it before (years ago) but not with that motherboard. Did
you make a bootable Zip disk? I remember short formatting a disk
while selecting a "make disk bootable" option. I'm not sure whether
current versions of Iomegaware still have that option, and I'm not
sure whether the DOS SYS command works properly on Zip disks.
It might also make a difference whether your drive is jumpered for
Drive A: mode (if it's an ATAPI2 model). You can find a bit of
information about that at my (abandoned) website.
I checked out your website but after trying the tips there, no luck. And,
yes, my ZIP disk was formatted with system files (IO.SYS MSDOS.SYS and
COMMAND.COM) - when I set the BIOS to boot order "LS-ZIP,C", the drive
doesn't even get accessed so it wouldn't matter if I had any disk in there,
it just doesn't boot and read the disk until the dos drivers have been
loaded. It may just be a limitation of my old board's BIOS, even though the
manufacturer claims it works (or worked at one time).
