Hi all,

I have an eternal Iomega zip100 drive that I'm trying to get my WinXP
Pro machine to recognize. When I first setup the XP machine it
recognized the zip drive and the drive worked. I haven't unplugged it
since then but when I went to use it today I couldn't access the drive
through My Computer (icon was there but did nothing when
double-clicked).

After verifying that the cables were all seated properly I rechecked My
Computer and the zip drive icon vanished shortly after double-clicking
on it! I tried ejecting the disk I had inserted and... nothing. The
yellow light is on (along with the green) and won't go off --
presumably meaning that the drive is being accessed.

I tried uninstalling the zip drive in Device Manager after finding that
it had a "Code 10" error and reinstalling the drivers downloaded from
www.iomega.com but it's still not finding the zip drive.

Is there any way to get the disk out of the zip drive safely?

Is there any way to get this zip drive installed properly?

Thanks in advance for the help,
Epoch

There is a small pinhole at the back of the zip drive, just above the
printer connector on a parallel port zip drive. Insert a paper clip into it
to eject the disk

But wait! You didn't say if it was parallel, you just said external. What
type is it? (The pinhole is still in the same location on all external
models, but how you get it working in XP is a different story depending on
its connection type: Is it USB, SCSI, or Parallel Port?

Copy and paste this link into your browser....

https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomega_na_en.cfg/php/enduser/cci/subproduct.php?p_prod_lvl1=1&p_sid=ITZPv3_h

Choose your zip drive and choose OS and you should find
some handy installation guides.

Good call Jay! I suspected that there was just such a pinhole but for
the life of me I couldn't find it. It's a parallel port drive and the
yellow "disk is active" light is still on even after ejecting the disk
by using the pinhole. I haven't tried anything after ejecting it yet
and I had already dug through the guides that Geothermal had offered
but let me run through them again and I'll see if they give better
results this time (in the event that the stuck disk was causing issues
with reinstallation).
